In July of 1983, right before midnight, a red Pontiac blocked the south end of Blackwood Tunnel-headlights off, doors wide open. High schoolers headed home swerved and braked, but the car vanished before they reached it. The only trace left was a scorched tire mark curling around the entrance, still warm to the touch. By August, six more drivers described the same Pontiac and the same burnt rubber smell-always gone by the time police arrived. Four years earlier, just outside Blackwood Tunnel, a red Pontiac vanished with its driver. Neither have ever been found.
