The Phantom Train of Bostian Bridge, 1891

Just after midnight on August 27th, 1941, a man stood on Bostian Bridge and heard the screeching iron wheels of a locomotive that wasn’t there. Bostian Bridge’s original disaster was fifty years earlier, when the Number 9 plunged from the same span, sending twenty-two passengers to their deaths in the gorge. Since then, locals whispered about a spectral train reappearing each year on the anniversary, its whistle echoing through the dark. But in 1941, the man was struck and killed by what witnesses swore was a train that vanished into thin air, right on the ruins of the original wreck.
