The Lights in Maplewood Galleria, 2015

At 2:36 a.m. on August 7th, 2015, emergency lights glowed across the shuttered Maplewood Galleria long after closing, catching the eye of the lone maintenance worker finishing up. All store gates were down, but in the west wing, he heard the grinding sound of an escalator running in darkness where no power should reach. When he reached the base, he saw the up escalator creeping by just one dim bulb, carrying something folded inside a branded yellow raincoat-one that had been locked in lost and found for three weeks. At the top step, the coat was empty, the inside tagged with a fresh guest wristband dated that night.
