The Doll That Learned to Blink

In 1956, on a rain-soaked night in Willowbrook, a little girl named Elsie was given a porcelain doll that never opened its eyes. Her mother only said, 'Your grandmother left you this doll.' Elsie crept closer, studying the doll’s cracked, pale face and wondered why its glass eyelids stayed shut, even when she touched its cheek. With thunder outside and moonlight spilling across her bed, Elsie drifted to sleep, the doll silent in its wooden chair. Hours later, she jolted awake-the doll was now facing her, eyes still closed, but its position had changed. Heart pounding, Elsie stepped forward as the doll’s eyelids creaked open, revealing piercing blue eyes that blinked once, then smiled back. The room went dark as Elsie screamed.
