Forty jagged slashes cut through the canvas of a tent on Lake Bodom in Finland on June 5th, 1960. The police found three bodies inside, hands tangled in sleeping bags, blood on the grass and one survivor outside, barely breathing. The survivor, Nils Gustafsson, said he never saw the killer’s face-just a shadow, long and slow, moving in silence. The tent was pitched at the water’s edge, but no footprints led away from it. In Gustafsson’s wallet, investigators found a photo nobody recognized: four kids at a lake, and one of them had no face at all.
