Script

At Elmridge Funeral Home in 2011, my name was already written in the guest book when I arrived-copied in my handwriting, down to the way I dot my I’s. The receptionist watched my hand freeze over the page and quietly told me I’d signed fifteen minutes earlier. She even pushed the pen toward me, saying, 'This is the same one you used.' When I asked to see the footage, the security DVD skipped, leaving a ten-minute gap. At the missing timestamp, the only thing left was the sound of the guest book slamming itself shut.

Caption

In 2011, a visitor at Elmridge Funeral Home saw his own name and handwriting in the guest book before his arrival. The staff insisted he had already signed in and offered to show him the surveillance tape. The tape was missing ten minutes of footage, and what was left showed the guest book slamming shut on its own.
