Script
On November 22, 1987, Chicago’s Channel 9 was interrupted mid-sports segment by a figure in a rubber Max Headroom mask, speaking in cryptic phrases while a metallic sheet writhed behind him. The entire hijack lasted just seconds, but engineers couldn’t regain control until the video ended itself. Two hours later, the same masked intruder overtook PBS station WTTW, this time with stranger content-garbled audio, shouting, and even a flyswatter. Investigators traced the signal but never found the source or how the hijacker bypassed both stations’ security. Whoever pulled off the Max Headroom hijack has never been identified.
