Script

Room 514 in Hotel Keystone, Kansas City, changed shape between check-in and sunrise. I counted eleven steps to the bathroom on Monday. Tuesday, there were seven, past a fireplace that hadn’t been there. Same room number, same view, but a new layout each night-once I woke up to my suitcase inside a closet I never saw before. The last morning, the window faced the wrong street. My receipt still said Room 514, but the keycard wouldn’t open any other door.

Caption

In 1999, guests at Hotel Keystone in Kansas City reported that the Henderson Suite changed every night. This short explores first-hand accounts of rooms that never kept the same floor plan, decor, or even exits two days in a row. One guest discovered her own suitcase locked inside a closet she’d never opened.
