## How YouTube Pays for Shorts

Shorts earn from the ads shown between videos in the Shorts feed. YouTube pools that revenue each month, and monetizing creators keep 45% of what is allocated to them, split by their share of engaged views. Using music in a Short does not lower that share (YouTube Help, Shorts monetization policies).

RPM is what you are paid per 1,000 views after that split. Influencer Marketing Hub (updated October 30, 2025) reports typical Shorts RPMs of $0.05 to $0.09, with strong niches near $0.15. That is the range used here.

To be paid at all, a channel has to be in the YouTube Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers and 10,000,000 Shorts views in the last 90 days. The calculator tells you whether your posting pace gets there.

## What Moves the Estimate

1. **Engaged views.** YouTube pays on eligible engaged views. Views on non-original Shorts, and artificial views, are not counted.
2. **The niche.** Advertisers pay more to reach some audiences, which is why the strong-niche figure is shown separately.
3. **How often you post.** The 90-day threshold is a views total, so more Shorts reach it sooner, if each one keeps its reach.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does YouTube pay for Shorts per 1,000 views?

Typical Shorts RPMs are $0.05 to $0.09 per 1,000 views, and strong niches report around $0.15. YouTube does not publish a rate; these come from creator data collected by Influencer Marketing Hub.

### How much does YouTube pay for 1 million Shorts views?

At $0.05 to $0.09 per 1,000 views, 1 million Shorts views comes to $50 to $90, and about $150 in a strong niche.

### What share of Shorts revenue do creators get?

Monetizing creators keep 45% of the revenue allocated to them from the Shorts creator pool, whether or not the Short uses music. RPM is already after that share, so do not take 45% off again.

### How do I get monetized on YouTube Shorts?

Join the YouTube Partner Program. The Shorts route asks for 1,000 subscribers and 10,000,000 qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days, then a policy review.

### Does the estimate include sponsorships or memberships?

No. It covers Shorts ad revenue only. Sponsorships, channel memberships, Super Thanks and affiliate links are paid separately.

### How do I post Shorts every day without filming?

[AutoFeed](/auto-posting) runs a series for you: it writes, renders and posts a new faceless Short at the times you pick, and posts to TikTok as well.
